Two Santal women sought directives from the High Court to issue rule on the government for judicial inquiry into eviction and torture on the Santals of Gaibandha’s Gobindaganj.

The two Santal victims — Olivia Hembrom, wife of Dijen Tudu, and Rumila Kisku, wife of Ganesh Murmu – sought the HC directives in a writ petition that was filed with the HC today.

They submitted the petition praying to the court to issue a rule upon the government to explain why the eviction and torture on the indigenous people at Gobindaganj should not be declared illegal.

The petitioner also requested the court to ask the authorities concerned of the government for their explanation why they should not be directed to take appropriate action against the people who were involved in evicting and attacking the Santals.

Earlier both Santal women sent legal notice asking for an explanation from the administration under what authority they have carried out eviction process of Santals in the upazila on November 6.
