Nine police constables sustained severe splinter injuries when the activists of BNP-Jamaat hurled crude bomb on a police van in Rajshahi city this morning, minutes after the law enforcers detained 20 party men from the spot.

Of the injured, two policemen–Ananda and Shahriar–received injuries in their heads and were shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital, said Ziaur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Boalia Police Station.

The policemen came under the attack of BNP and its key ally Jamaat-e-Islami when a convoy of police van, comprising three vehicles, was patrolling in front of Loknath High School in Sonadighi area of the city around 12:30pm, the OC said.

The opposition men made the attack to avenge the detention of 20 activists of BNP, Jamaat and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir.

A team of law enforcers nabbed the party men from the spot when they tried to bring out a procession at Sonadighi intersection as part of their countrywide demonstration around 11:45am, the police official said.
