The wagon went off track near Gangasagar Railway Station at Akhaura around 11.30am on Wednesday, said Akhaura Railway official Md Mohsin Bhuiyan.
A salvage train rushed to the spot and launched rescue work, said OC Saidul Islam of Akhaura Railway Police.
Three trains are currently stranded in various stations along these routes.
