Security beefed up at jails across the country

Security has been beefed up at all the jails across the country after criminals attacked a prison van and snatched away three including two condemned death row activists of Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Mymensingh this morning.

After the incident, the authorities issued a special alert to the jails to strengthen its security, reports private television channel Shomoy TV.

The authorities of Chittagong Central Jail have taken up tight security measures as 15 convicted JMB men, known to be associates of snatched JMB member Boma Mizan, are now inside the jail, the channel reported quoting Mohammad Sagir Mia, senior superintendent of the jail.

Jahidul Islam alias Boma Mizan was an explosives expert of the outlawed group.

The two other convicts are Salahuddin alias Salehin, JMB in-charge of Sylhet-Mymensingh region; Mohammad Rakib Hasan Russell alias Hafez Mahmud, Khulna divisional commander of JMB.
