An activist of Jubo League was stabbed to death by unknown miscreants in Satkania upazila of Chittagong early today.

Awami League and its associate organisation, Jubo League, blamed the activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir for the killing, which the party men denied.

Informed by locals, police recovered the body of Md Alamgir, 30, from a roadside field at Eochia union of the upazila in the morning, reports our Chittagong correspondent quoting Shefayet Ullah, a sub-inspector of Satkania Police Station.

The body bore stab marks in his chest, abdomen and back, said the SI.

Contacted, local AL lawmaker Dr Abu Reza Mohammad Nezamuddin Nadvi claimed that the Jamaat-Shibir men, who have been unleashing anarchy in the upazila centring the 10th parliamentary election, killed Alamgir, a resident of Churamaoni Adorsho village.

“I have talked to the deputy inspector general of police (DIG) and superintendent of police (SP) of Chittagong and they assured me of immediate arrest of the culprits,” Nadvi said, adding, “Police will conduct special drives from today to arrest the criminals.”

Denying the allegation, Mohammad Ishak, Jamaat acting ameer of Chittagong district (South) unit, said he knew nothing about the murder.

Khaled Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Satkania police station, said police is looking into the matter.
