3 killed in Dhaka post-polls violence

At least three people were killed and 20 hurt in a clash between the activists of Awami League and Jatiya Party in Dohar upazila of Dhaka this morning.

With this, the death toll from election violence yesterday and today rose to 23.

The clash took place at Bilashpur around 9:00am, Bangla daily Prothom Alo reports quoting Manjur Elahi, a physician of Dohar Upazila Health Complex.

Meanwhile, a Jubo League activist and another Shibir man, who sustained injuries during post-poll violence yesterday in Noakhali and Dinajpur, died early today.

Mahfuz (full name could not be known), 22, was the activist of Jubo League, the youth wing of ruling Awami League, while Md Asadullah, 18, was the activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.

Mahfuz was injured when opposition men swooped on a victory procession of AL and its front organisation at Gazaria bazar in the upazila around 10:00pm yesterday.

On the other hand, Asadullah, the Shibir activist, was beaten up by law enforcers following a clash with AL men at a polling centre in Birganj upazila of Dinajpur around 3:30pm yesterday.
