The BNP-led 18-party opposition alliance today warned that the government will be responsible for any untoward incident as it did not cancel tomorrow’s “farcical” elections.

“We urge people from all walks of life not to go to polling centres and boycott it,” Osman Faruq, an adviser to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, said at a press briefing at his Gulshan residence this afternoon.

On behalf of the alliance, he also called upon the countrymen to say no to the “farcical election” and yes to democracy.

“If the government does not cancel the January 5 elections and fails to ‘free’ Khaleda then the government will be held responsible for any unwarranted situation,” he added.

The BNP leader said the “staged-managed election” will deepen the ongoing political crisis further.
