A covered van was set afire in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur early today, just a couple of hours before the opposition’s indefinite blockade began.
None was hurt in the arson attack, reports our Gazipur correspondent quoting Amir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station.
The BNP on Sunday called the nonstop blockade of rail, roads and waterways from the first day of the new year to resist what it called the one-sided January 5 election.
Supporters of blockaders set fire to the van stationed at Rajendrabazar around 4:30am, the OC said.
Locals and on-duty policemen doused the fire immediately.
Meanwhile, law enforcers detained 10 people in the district on suspicion that they might create anarchy, according to police control room of the district.
