Awami League presidium member Kazi Zafarullah today said the doors for dialogue has not been shut as yet and the ruling party has kept the doors open with a generous attitude.
“We have urged all the political parties to participate in the ensuing polls. But, we haven’t yet got any response from BNP for talks. However, we want to say to BNP that we have kept open
the doors for dialogue with a generous attitude,” he said.
Kazi Zafarullah said this while speaking at a press conference on distribution of party nomination forms and the process for formation of a board in this regard at Awami League (AL) central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city.
Distribution and submission of nomination forms for the ruling Awami League’s tickets in the polls to the 10th Jatiya Sangsad (Parliament) begins on November 10.
Deserving nomination seekers of Awami League can collect nomination forms paying Taka 25,000 each and submit that at party central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city from 10 am to 5
pm everyday.
Kazi Zafarullah said, “We could create an election environment now across the country. There should not be any doubt in anybody’s mind about the holding of election to the Jatiya Sangsad.”
About the extension of time of the current session of the parliament, the Awami League leader said the time of the ongoing parliament session has been extended for reaching an understanding with BNP on the election-time government and exchange of opinion with the opposition in this regard.
He hoped that the main opposition BNP would express their opinion in the parliament within the extended period on the issue.
The AL presidium member said, “We have got information that the BNP-led 18-party combine has been taking poll preparations subtly nominating their candidates for the ensuing election. Leaders and workers of BNP are also eager to take part in the polls.”
Speaking at the press conference, AL joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif alleged that the BNP-Jamaat leaders have been misleading the nation by issuing statements from time to time. But, he disclosed to reporters that the parliamentary elections would be held in the stipulated time.
Hanif categorically said, “The polls will be held within January 24 in accordance with the constitution. For the purpose we have been taking poll preparations at the instruction of our party president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”
AL organising secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, information and research affairs secretary Advocate Afzal Hossain, labour affairs secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj, Dhaka City AL general secretary Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya (Bir Bikram), vice-president Kamal Ahmed Mazumdar, MP, senior joint secretary and state minister for law Advocate Quamrul Islam, joint secretary Haji Md Selim, organising secretary Shahe Alam Murad and Awami Swechchasebak League president Advocate Mollah Md Abu Kowsar were present, among others, at the press conference.
