Law enforcers have sought 20-day remand for three top leaders of BNP and an adviser and a special assistant of the party’s chairperson for their alleged involvement in attempt to kill policemen and violence in the capital.
The five, who were picked up from two separate points in Dhaka last night, were shown arrested in two separate cases filed for the aforementioned offences.
They were taken to the court premises around 3:20pm, our court correspondent reported.
The three leaders, all standing committee members of the main opposition, and BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s adviser and special assistant were kept at Detective Branch office on Minto Road in Dhaka since their arrest.
Moudud Ahmed, MK Anwar and Rafiqul Islam Miah were arrested from in front of Hotel Sonargaon in the capital yesterday hours after the BNP-led 18-party alliance called 72-hour hartal demanding non-party polls-time government.
Detectives picked up the three arrests as the trio came out of Hotel Sonargaon attending the anniversary celebration of Bangla daily Prothom Alo.
Three BNP standing committee members Moudud Ahmed, MK Anwar and Rafiqul Islam Miah, who were arrested in the capital last night, have been shown arrested today in two cases filed for attempts on policemen and vandalism in Dhaka.
Around five hours later, law enforcers detained BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s adviser Abdul Awal Mintoo and special assistant Shimul Biswas outside her Gulshan-2 home around 1:10am.
Earlier in the day, the five were shown arrested in two cases filed by Humayun Kabir Hawlader and AKM Aminul, assistant sub-inspectors of Motijheel Police Station, on September 24 and November 6.
In his complaint, ASI Aminul claimed that the opposition leaders blocked a road at Kamalapur Bazaar and blasted crude bombs targeting the law enforcers on November 5. Some of the police personnel were injured in the attack, according to the complaint.
On the other hand, ASI Humayun alleged that the BNP leaders torched a car and blasted several cocktails in front of Motijheel Ideal School and College on September 24.
Today, SI Mizanur Rahman of Motijheel Police Station, the investigation officer of murder attempt case, and SI Khandakar Zahid Ali, IO of the other case, sought 10-day remand for each of the accused in each of the case.
