The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has denied the ruling Awami League permission to hold a rally in the capital tomorrow on security grounds, a spokesperson of the party said today.
Had the AL received permission for it, the rally could coincide with the opposition’s rally planned for tomorrow at Suhrawardy Udyan.
The ruling party however has decided to post its activists at different key points in the city “to guard the lives and properties of the people”.
“We are not holding any rally tomorrow. But our people will take position at different points in the city,” AL deputy office secretary Mrinal Kanti Das told The Daily Star.
To counter the opposition’s rally, the AL earlier sought permission from the DMP to hold rally at any of the three points in the capital — Bangabandhu Avenue, Suhrawardry Udyan and Paltan Maidan.
