Alim to stay in jail for rest of life

The international crimes tribunal-2 on Wednesday handed sentenced until death in jail to the detained BNP leader Abdul Alim for committing genocides and killings during the liberation war in 1971.
The presiding judge, Justice Obaidul Hassan pronounced the verdict against Abdul Alim at noon in a crowded courtroom.
On September 22, on completion of hearing of both the sides, the judges kept the verdict in the case reserved for pronouncement at a later date.
Alim, 83, was tried on 17 counts of 1971 crimes against humanity. Nine charges, including two for genocides, six for killing were proved, eight weren’t established.
This is the eighth verdict in war crimes cases in independent Bangladesh.
