DHAKA: Bangladesh Government Sunday signed a loan agreement with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in order to construct three bridges on Dhaka-Chittagong highway.
Sources said the new four-lane bridges will be constructed besides the exiting Kanchpur, Meghna and Gumti Bridges in order to support the traffic volume on the route.
Secretary for finance Abul Kalam Azad and JICA Chief Representative to Dhaka Dr. Takao Toda signed the agreement from their respective sides at NEC-2 in city’s Sher-e Bangla Nagar around 9:30pm.
Amongst the others, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Communication Minister Obaidul Quader and Japanese ambassador to Bangladesh Shiro Sadoshima were present during the programme.
A total of TK 8, 907 cores is required to build the three bridges and out of which JICA will provide TK 6, 764 crore.
The rest TK 2, 143 crore will be provided by the Bangladeshi government.
