DHAKA: The High Court on Sunday issued a rule upon the government to arrest the culprits who were involved in attack on minorities’ houses at Banskhali upazila of Chittagong district.
An HC bench comprising Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury and Mahmudul Haque passed the sua-moto rule.
The direction came after a Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Subrato Chowdhury placed some newspapers’ reports about attack on minorities by religious fanatics after the ICT verdict that awarded death penalty to Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer Delawar Hossain Saydee on February 28.
The court also directed Chittagong deputy commissioner to take necessary step to rehabilitate the minorities, rebuild the affected temples and ensure security of them within 60 days.
On the other hand, court issued a rule about administration’s inactiveness on this matter.
Home Ministry Secretary, Inspector General of Police, Chittagong Deputy Commissioner, Police Super and Banskhali Officer-in-Charge were made the respondents to the rule.
The court also asked them to explain within 10 days.
