Abdul Jalil’s namaz-e-Janazas held

DHAKA: The third namaz-e-janaza of ruling Awami League Advisory Council Member Abdul Jalil was held at South Plaza of the National Parliament on Friday.

Earlier, President Zillur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and speaker of the parliament Abdul Hamid paid their last respect to Abdul Jalil.

Meanwhile, Jalil, also one of the organizers of liberation war, was given a guard of honor during the time.

Apart from this, ruling party chief whip Abdus Shaheed and opposition chief whip Joynal Abdin Farroque also placed floral wreath to the veteran leader.

Later, AL leaders led-by Sajeda Chowdhury, deputy leader of the parliament, while Jatiya Party leaders led-by its chairman Hussein Mohammad Ershad paid their last tributes to Jalil.

Earlier in the morning, the first Janaza of him was held around 9:00am in front of Marcentile bank in city’s Motijheel-Dilkusha commercial area while the second one was held in front of Awami League central office around 10:00am.

Later, the body is being taken to his village home in Naogaon district where he would be buried as per the last wish of the veteran leader.

Before burial, two more namaz-e-janazas of him would also be held at ATM Ground and Chalkpran Moholla in the district town.

District Awami League declared a seven-day programme in the district to mourn the death of Jalil, said district AL president advocate Fazle Rabbi Baku.

Earlier on Thursday, the body of ruling Abdul Jalil has arrived here from Singapore by a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

On Wednesday evening, Abdul Jalil breathed his last at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore. He was 74. He was born on 21 January in 1939. He was a former minister of Bangladesh Government and general secretary of ruling Awami League.

Jalil was also founder Chairman of Mercantile Bank Limited.
