One dies, over 60 held in city

DHAKA: One Shibir activists died and more than 60 others were held from different parts of the capital during protest programme of religion-based 8-party on Friday.

Sources said one shibir activist died as he jumped from a seven-storied building in city’s Paltan area to avoid police arrest.

Meanwhile, police nabbed some 50 Shibir activists from city’s Fakirapul area as they brought out a procession protesting the arrest of their assistant secretary general Selim Uddin and Uttra thana ameer Mahmudur Rahman after Juma prayer.

Besides, 11 activists of Islamic parties were held from Osmani Udyan, adjacent of the secretariat and three student of Kowmi Madrasa from Baitul Mukarram with surgical blades while two from Motijheel Shapla Chattar.

Police sources said in a police interrogation, the eleven people admitted that they had came to Dhaka from Tangail to join the Friday’s protest rally.

Besides, Sergeant Moshiur, on-duty officer at South gate of the central mosque, told banglanews, “Three detainees were taken to Paltan police station for quizzing. Legal steps would be taken as per received information.”
