CHITTAGONG: Businessmen shutdown many of their institutions and shops in Khatunganj area of the port city on Wednesday morning in protest against assaulting a local councilor allegedly for violating a girl.
Panic mounted in the area when businessmen, laborers and supporters of the councilor brought out processions and staged rally shutting their business organizations around 10:30am, banglanews correspondent reports.
Besides, they put pushcarts on the roads to obstruct several goods-laden vehicles from entering the area.
Bakshirhat former councilor Jamal Hossain confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Confirming the matter Bakalia police station OC Nurul Absar told banglanews, “We are informed that another group is preparing to hold counter rally. So we have deployed additional force in the area to avert untoward sitution.”
On the other hand, the young girl filed a rape case against councilor Nurul Haque, 72 with Bakalia police station.
As per the case statement, the councilor rapped her around 4:00pm on Tuesday at her house of KB Rice Agency Building in Chaktai Chalpotti area of the port city.
OC Nurul Abser told banglanews, “The process of medical check-up of the victim is underway. Clues which were collected from the spot will be sent to Dhaka for examination.”
