DHAKA: The dawn-to-dusk hartal, called by Jamaat-e-Islami, is underway on Wednesday in six districts of Rajshahi division.
The party is observing the day long shutdown in protest against the arrest of Rajshahi city Jamaat Ameer Ataur Rahman.
Our Rajshahi Correspondent reports, hartal supporters set some tyres on fire in Katakhali area and in front of RH hostel in Bhodra area around 7:30am.
Meanwhile, picketers vandalized a passenger bus in Kharkhari area of the metropolis.
Besides, police held four men when Shibir activist tried to bring out sudden procession in Park gate area.
Sources said Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel and police were deployed in key points of the divisional city to avoid untoward situations.
However, Wednesday’s pre-scheduled exam of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) is running amid the hartal in the division, competent sources said.
On the other hand, a relaxed day long hartal is underway in Chapainawabganj district.
Chapainawabganj Correspondent reports, Shibir men failed to picket when they tried to set fire on tyres in front of Hossain Petrol Pump adjacent to the highway in district sadar in the morning.
Sources said shallow engine and battery-run vehicles were seen plying on the road.
Meanwhile, shops have also started opening in the morning.
Earlier on Tuesday night, police held nine Jamaat-Shibir activists from Sadar upazila, Shibganj upazila and Gomstapur area apprehending subversive acts.
However, hartal also is progressing in relax manner in Joypurhat, Naogaon, Natore, and Pabna district while Sirajganj and Bogra districts have been kept outside the purview of hartal.
Jamaat Bogra unit Secretary Majedur Rahman Jewel confirmed the matter to banglanews around 10:45am on Tuesday.
