MUNSHIGANJ: The death toll from launch capsizes in Meghna River climbed to 18 with the recovery of four more bodies on Wednesday after six days of incident.
The victims are Abul Hashem, 38, Nazma Begum, 30, wife of Jilani Sarkar, Shahnaj Akter, 18, daughter of late Abdur RAzzak, Shilpi Akter, 25, wife of Nurul Islam. All of them were residents of different areas of Matlab in Chandpur.
Witnesses said locals found three bodies floating in different areas of the upazila of Chandpur in Meghna river while another was found floating around 12:00pm.
Coastguard recovered the body.
On information, Gazaria thana police and family members rushed in and identified the bodies.
Earlier, three bodies, out of 50 missing passengers, were recovered on Friday afternoon as a launch capsized in Meghna River in Ismanir Char area.
On Saturday, rescue team with the help of locals recovered 11 more bodies from the sunken launch.
On February 8, a Chandpur-bound launch MV Sharosh from Narayanganj sank around 8:15am after colliding with a Bulkhead named Firoza Farzana with 100 passengers on board.
On information, a trawler and a Sea-boat rushed to the spot and rescued 15 to 20 passengers while others went missing.
