NARAYANGANJ: A man allegedly killed his wife and daughter for dowry at Fatulla under Sadar upazila of the district on Wednesday morning.
The deceased were identified as Jharna Begum, 20, wife of Sadekur Rahman, and their 40-day-old daughter Sadia.
Witnesses said locals broke the doors of Jhorna’s room as she was not responding and found the bodies of Jhorna and her daughter on Wednesday morning.
Fatulla police station SI Ataur Rahman told banglanews that Sadekur might have suffocated the mother and daughter to death.
The bodies are being send to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy, said police.
According to family source, Jhorna and Sadekur got married two years ago. Sadekur was demanding dowry from Jharna’s family from last couple of months.
Sadekur used to beat Jhorna up as she failed to meet up his demand, said family members.
Jhorna’s mother Kohinur alleged that Sadekur killed her daughter as they refused give him Tk 60,000 as dowry.
Sakekur reminded absconding since the killings took place, said police source.
