SYLHET(5 Feb) : At least 20 people, including policemen, were injured in sporadic clashes between police and Jamaat-Shibir men here during hartal hours on Tuesday.
Police held 10 Jamaat men from the spot.
Sources said the clash began after delivered the judgment by International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 over life term imprisonment against Quader Mollah at Banderbazar and Naya Sarak areas when Jamaat activists were trying to bring out a protest procession in it.
Police obstructed Jamaat men in the area and not let them to create any unwanted situation. At one stage, Shibir activists locked into clash with police forces.
Jamaat men threw brickbats and blasted cocktails during the hartal hours, leaving three police personnel injured, including a sub-inspector.
Police opened fire huge number rubber bullets and teargas shells to disperse the agitators that left at least 15 Jamaat men injured. Police held 10 Jamaat-Shibir activists from the spot.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Ejaz Ahmed said five police personnel were injured in the clash.
Later, in a drive police detained 10 Jamaat-Shibir activists from adjacent areas in this connection, he added.
