DHAKA (28janu) : Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Benazir Ahmed on Monday asked police personnel to open fire targeting Shibir activists as soon as they (Shibir) are visible.

The city police boss came up with the direction while visiting injured police members at Central Police Hospital along with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Hasan Mahmud Khandaker.

The top police personnel went to the hospital to visit the police members who received injury in the clash with Shibir activists earlier in the day.

While talking injured Constable Mokhlesur Rahman in the hospital, the DMP Commissioner said, “Didn’t you get any arms? Why did you not open fire?”

“From now open fire as soon as Shibir is visible,” he suggested the ailing constable.

Visiting the bed of Ziaur Rahman, another Constable who got leg injury, he said, “Break their (Shibir activists) legs being recovered.”

Earlier in the morning on Monday, at least 18 police members were injured when they prevented Jamaat-Shibir activists from bringing procession demanding release of their party leaders who were confined in prison on charge of war crimes during the war of liberation in 1971.

Leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir went on rampage in four districts including the capital on Monday demanding release of Jamaat leaders through canceling the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).

Shibir members locked into the clash with police in capital’s Dainik Bangla Intersection, Motijheel, Gulistan and Secretariat areas in the morning.

They exploded 25 to 30 cocktails areas on the streets adjacent to the secretariat and vandalized several government vehicles.
